True Crime Audiobooks – Chasing the Devil By Sheriff David Reichart

The introduction of the audiobook into the realm of possible media formats has had benefits to many different types of people.

The busy executive can now listen to books in audio form whilst driving. The person with back pain can just lie on the bed., or on a hard board, and listen without the need to strain, or even move the body. Of course the biggest benefit is gained by the blind and partially sighted, who can now enjoy audio versions of many books, eliminating the need for expensive special equipment, or proficiency in the blind person's language of Braille.

Now, due to the release of a series of True Crime Audiobooks, it is possible to learn the facts behind many of the world's most notorious cases, often from the words of people who were directly involved. One of these True Crime Audiobooks is the story of one of the most prolific and notorious of America's serial killers, the Green River Killer Gary Ridgway, written by the Sheriff whose obsession it was to hunt him down. Sheriff David Reichert was the Sheriff of King County in the State of Washington.

Ridgway is believed to have murdered nearly fifty women, most of them teenage runaways or prostitutes from around the Seattle area.

The Sheriff Department of King County, Washington, formed the Green River Task Force in the early 1980s.

David Reichert was one of its most influential members. Amazingly enough, Ridgway was arrested for prostitution related charges as early as 1982, and was listed as a suspect for the murders as early as 1983. Despite this, it took nearly twenty years for him to actually be arrested on suspicion of murder.

This was after DNA evidence had suggested a link between Ridgway and four of the victims. Despite being arrested for multiple murders in a State that enforces the death penalty, Ridgway was not executed after he bargained with the lawyers to reveal information relating to the unsolved crimes.

The arrest that finally led to Ridgway's capture came when DNA from the victims was matched to DNA form Ridgway. Ridgway's DNA sample had been taken as early as 1987, when the police took samples of his hair and saliva. Despite this it took until 2001 for enough evidence to exist for Ridgway to be brought to justice.

David Reichert's many years of hard work, his infuriating near misses, and his overwhelming compassion for the victims, are all chronicled in this new True Crime Audiobook, which must surely be required reading for anyone who wants to really understand how criminals of this magnitude are hunted down.
