Now, in the age of small, compact audio players and digital downloads, it is possible to enjoy the printed word without even having to read it. Many of the world's books have been converted to the digital audio format, and many of them are available as digital downloads from websites on the internet. Now, there is a series of True
Crime Audiobooks, which makes it possible for fans of this kind of book to enjoy them listening in the car, while out walking or jogging, or just sitting relaxing in the garden. It is also now possible for the blind and partially sighted to enjoy these books, without the need for Braille.
One of the books now available as part of this series is “Are You There Alone?”, written by Suzanne O'Malley. This is the story of possibly the most horrific personal crime of this decade. Back in June 2001 Andrea Yates, a suburban housewife from Houston, drowned her five children in the bathtub of her home.
She was convicted of first degree murder, but the verdict was later overturned due to insanity. Yates is currently in the North Texas State Hospital, and is receiving medical treatment.
Suzanne O.Malley, who wrote this book “Are You There Alone?”, has always maintained that Andrea Yates was, and still is, clearly insane, and that the initial verdict was completely erroneous. Yates had, in fact, been suffering from psychosis and depression, and had been receiving treatment for these for two years.
Her initial psychiatrist had even urged her not to produce more children, believing that it would “guarantee future psychotic depression.” O'Malley believes that the case was completely mishandled, that Yates was misdiagnosed, and that the drugs Yates was prescribed were prescribed in error. O'Malley presents a mountain of evidence against the medical practitioners, and the system of mental health treatment in the State of Texas.
Also involved in this horrifying case is a sinister religious cult in which both Yates and her husband were involved. This cult was formed by Michael Peter Woroniecki, whom Mr. Yates had met whilst at University. Part of this cult's extraordinary doctrine is that couples should produce as many children as possible.
The cult had apparently produced a video recording several years earlier which suggested Yates needed to find another way to “save” her children. She was brainwashed into believing that she was an inadequate mother, which she clearly believed as she stated that as the reason for her murdering her children.
Now, you can make up your own mind, as this frightening account is now available as a fully downloadable True Crime Audiobook.
